About
The Philadelphia Inquirer recently cited Waring as one of the “10 Most Improved Schools in Pennsylvania.” Waring also received the Keystone Award, which recognizes significant improvement in a school’s performance.
Waring school's class sizes are small, and the teachers pride themselves on doing their jobs “The Waring Way” with academic excellence and caring.” They are strong teachers, role models, and mentors who strive to make Waring the best school in the city of Philadelphia.
Waring students go on many exciting, academically related class trips throughout the school year. Beautiful samples of student work adorn the halls of the school and make for an inviting learning environment and recognition of the students’ achievements.
60% of Waring graduates attend magnet and select admission high schools such as Central High School, SLA, Creative and Performing Arts High School, and Franklin Learning Center. The neighborhood high school is Benjamin Franklin.
Waring is adjacent to a Department of Recreation playing field and playground. The school has a modern Apple computer lab and two science labs. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive white board. The school also has three laptop carts for use in the classroom. The mini-theater, newly installed by the Walnut Street Theatre, will serve as a performance space for Waring students in the future.
Jen Manness
School Counselor
I have been a counselor in Philadelphia for 7 years, and I absolutely love my job! I am split between two K-8 schools. Between the two schools I have about 800 babies. Being split is a challenge, but I go to work every day energized and inspired by my kids. After school, I coach a running team. We will be running a half marathon together soon. I love seeing the looks on the kids' faces when they accomplish something they never thought they could.
