About

The mission of the John Fiske Elementary School is to meet the diverse needs of all children by providing a culturally responsive education, engaging students through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program that encourages students to be critical thinkers and inquirers, and make practical connections between their studies and the real world. This will be accomplished through: Using inquiry based units on global contexts, John Fiske Elementary will develop and educate the whole child with a balanced approach to learning with an international thrust that seeks to cultivate socially conscious problem-solvers and global leaders. Cultivating a positive social climate through focus upon student acquisition of a sense of self, positive modes for self-expression, cultural wellness, social and emotional well-being, and educational enrichment, which motivate students towards meaningful associations and relationships within their community. Delivering high quality literacy and math instruction that reflects Common Core State Standards (CCSS) focusing on rigor and relevance. Using the Next Generation Science Standards to provide students with a rich experience in science content and practice in kindergarten through 8th grade using interdisciplinary, thematic units that allow students to demonstrate science ability through planning, performing and discussing experiments. Increasing kindergarten through eighth grade attendance by 7% over the next four years.
