Exceptional Children's Teacher
I am an EC teacher who works at a high risk Project Lift School that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a pre k through 8th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina, and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of first grade and middle school Special Education students in science, social studies and reading. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be! I help equalize education for special needs students which build their confidence and helps students find academic success. I provide extra support in English Language Arts, science and social studies class, as well as reading.
