About

Welcome to the Fairfield Public School District! The Winston S. Churchill Upper Elementary School serves approximately 280 students in grades 4 through 6, and offers a strong tradition of academic excellence. We are a community of learners focused on personal and professional growth in both character and academics. Students benefit from small class sizes and an outstanding faculty and staff. The 6th grade is fully departmentalized, and all 6th graders participate in our one-to-one Chromebook initiative in order to prepare them for their transition to the West Essex Junior High School. Throughout all grade levels, instruction is aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). Our classrooms are "cultures of thinking" with an emphasis on communication, collaboration and differentiation.

Winston S. Churchill offers a full complement of learning experiences. In addition to core academics, students receive instruction in Spanish, library and media, computer technology, vocal music and physical education. Additionally, we offer our High Enrichment Program, a gifted and talented program for students who meet the qualification for entry into the program. Furthermore, two dedicated computer labs, with 25 computers each, are used daily by students and staff. Classroom computers and three carts of laptop computers are in use as well. Teachers and students extensively use a variety of Google Apps, including a focus on Google Classroom and Drive, to aid in the integration of 21st Century skills in our instruction.

A comprehensive music program is offered, which includes chorus, band and string ensembles. This program provides students the opportunity to study a variety of musical genres, perform concerts, and compete in competitions.

Character education is infused throughout the curriculum in every classroom. A new focus on habits that will assist our students in reaching their full potential will be introduced this school year. Special assembly programs and events will teach anti-bully themes and encourage our school's culture of kindness and respect for all individuals.
