Keep the Garden Growing
$380
$310 goal
The Description
How it all started: It all began when one of our teachers noticed that her students LOVED growing things in their classroom. They got excited to come into school each day to see their plants. She wanted their excitement for learning to continue to through to all subjects, so she began integrating the plants into everything they did. They measured their growth (math), they wrote in journals about their observations (science and writing) and had them research plants (reading).
The teacher thought that the rest of the school would also benefit from planting and decided to take it to the next level. She wrote a grant through the NJEA and, even though it was the first grant she ever wrote, she became a recipient twice (the other garden is in the K-3 school in the district).
The Churchill school garden was started 2 years ago in a sunny spot right outside the library in the school yard. Local businesses and community members helped create the raised garden beds, fenced in the garden and helped care for the garden during the first year.

With these funds we will...keep our garden growing! We started most of what will be planted this year as seeds in the classroom.
We will purchase:
-strawberry plants (approx. 10 new plants)
-perennial flowers (approx. 10)
-bulbs (ex: tulips, daffodils)
-paint and supplies for garden decor (paint for the tires and gardening bench)
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal we...will try to find the sources of financing. Perhaps we will try applying for some grants in the next school year.
