Alison Snow
10th Grade Geometry Teacher
September 5th, I will begin my journey as a Teach for America Corps Member in Baltimore at Forest Park High School teaching geometry. I'm incredibly excited to join the over 1,100+ current and former Baltimore corps members as we work with the Baltimore communities to fight the systemic educational inequity that exists across the country. In order to jumpstart my journey, I am asking for your support in providing basic classroom materials for my students. Many school systems are unable to provide all of the necessary materials for our nation's children to pursue their education to the fullest and this burden then falls on the students and their families and teachers. I've provided a list of school supplies that you can directly purchase (much like a wedding registry) that will ship to my home to help me provide for my classroom as a new teacher. Over the year, these materials add up and the one pack of erasers or pencils can help further a child's education. Thank you so much for your support and I cannot wait to share with you all the growth and success of my students over the next year!

I work at an urban Title I school in Baltimore that serves a community of under-privileged Pre-k students. Although my students have many life obstacles, they come to school with an unrelenting willingness to grow and learn. When they enter into the classroom, they know that they are in a safe and nurturing environment where they are able to work towards their goals. My four year old students's minds are rapidly developing, Children are growing quickly in every area, not only mentally, but also socially, emotionally, and physically. Donations provided will not only fund my students basic needs (glue sticks, hand sanitizer etc), but they will allow me to create learning centers that foster each area of development so children can grow up to be successful in school and in life. My students inspire me every day. They take risks, make mistakes and learn from them on a daily basis. Help me provide my students an education that they deserve.

10th grade English teacher
Hi everyone! Starting this September, I will be teaching 10th grade English at Coppin Academy in Baltimore! I am very excited to begin my career as an educator after working toward this goal for so many years. I will be working in a low-income school, which means there is very little money set aside for classroom supplies. The goal of my fundraiser is to raise funds for things like books, markers, highlighters, notebooks, and other supplies that will contribute to a dynamic learning environment! Feel free to ask about my plans :) any amount of donation is so greatly appreciated!

Hello generous donors! Since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in April, I have jumped headfirst into the world of public school teaching. As I navigate copious acronyms and seemingly never-ending professional development sessions, the reason I came into this work is confirmed time and time again. Teacher jargon and long days are undoubtedly worth it when, at the end of the day, I know I will be in front of students in a few short weeks teaching the three things I'm most passionate about: literature, writing, and social justice. When I decided to shift my career path from writing — journalism, magazine editing, and fiction — to education, I made a commitment. If I am the purported lover of writing/reading I claim to be, I must pursue the humbling work of helping others love writing/reading, too. As I settle into my new home in Baltimore, my commitment takes the form of becoming a middle school English teacher at Dr. Carter G. Woodson Elementary/Middle School. Here, I will elevate students' reading and writing levels to help them gain access to more and greater opportunities, including the opportunity to read and write for pleasure, for work, and for academic, social, or justice reasons. I care deeply about my students, who I have yet to meet, because I care deeply about the importance of equitable access to words. As you consider donating to my classroom, please consider the ways in which your life would be different if you had graduated high school with a much lower reading level. Consider the ways in which your life would be different if you didn't have the reading skills to analyze your first contract, or the writing skills to advance to a leadership position at your job. Consider what your life might look like if you hadn't graduated high school at all. I thank you all for considering donating to my classroom. Your money will be used for instrumental classroom items like pencils, notebooks, name tags, books, furniture, and more. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about my work or how to donate. Love, Ms. Hannah

6th Grade Mathematics Teacher
For the 2019-2020 academic year, I will be teaching mathematics to 60 6th grade students at the Belair-Edison School in the Belair-Edison neighborhood of Baltimore city. The Belair-Edison School is a Title 1 school, meaning more than half the student body qualifies for free and reduced lunch, the measure for being a high need school. This year, I hope to give my students the proper tools to succeed in the form of school supplies and a well-rounded education.
