About

We're proud to be able to say that CHEC is one of the premier grades 6-12 institutions in the country, and below are just a few reasons why we hope you'll consider enrolling at CHEC, partnering with us or applying to become one of us.

All students who graduate from our Dual Language Immersion Early College Campus will be prepared to succeed in college and civic life as leaders in the quest for social justice. We develop intellectually curious scholars who are articulate communicators in two languages, critical thinkers and consumers, cultural ambassadors, and contributing community members. Our students develop positive habits that build physical and mental health. We focus on socio-emotional learning as a key part of the instructional program, and our students demonstrate perseverance, ethics and character in the pursuit of excellence. Restorative practices are the foundation of our school climate, as we enhance relationships and build community. As lifelong learners in the pursuit of excellence and innovation, we foster a growth mindset through which teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members all collaborate to achieve goals. We trust one another to continually improve our practice.

Special Education Teacher

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.

Library Media Specialist

Hello! I am honored to serve as the library media specialist for some of the most amazing high school students in the world,at Columbia Heights Education Campus (CHEC), in the District of Columbia. As a Washingtonian, it has been extremely important for me to build an empathetic, loving and academically rigorous environment for my students. The dated library does not offer students the technology, access to information and space needed to give them what they deserve in a 21st century library/ innovation lab. I am determined to provide these amazing students with the tools needed to be successful beyond high school. A renovated library with state of the art tinkering technology, audiovisual equipment, makerspace, innovation lab and books in all formats as to enhance accommodations for all our learners is my goal. We are not only helping to empower scholars but, we are learning with them on this journey called life. Thank you for for generosity and investment into the next generation of world leaders!
