Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

As a teacher I am responsible for my very own classroom! I engage daily with my students and their families, and it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom is a welcoming environment for everyone. One of the biggest challenges is making sure that all of my students have the materials they need to participate in class daily. This is especially important at the beginning of the school year, when we set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the supplies needed to welcome my students back to their classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference in our classroom. As always, I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Year Two: Update

August 24, 2019

Hello All,

Thank you so much for being willing to donate to our classroom. I would like to note that the "description" above of the list of supplies is a generic one from TFA/Pledgecents, and as a second year teacher I've learned that there are a few other things I would love to provide for my students other than the generic supplies, which we still need. But I wanted ya'll to be more aware of what this support might go towards. So here is a list of ideas that I came up with for what would make our classroom more welcoming with the input of my students:

-More flexible seating and more lamps & twinkle lights (bc those school fluorescent lights are too bright), earphones for students who don't have some for our chromebooks, snacks/candy (middle schoolers love their snacks), fidget tools (helps with anxiety and students who need help focusing), stress balls, colored paper (I would love to get some multicultural skin toned paper if we do a drawing project), and other school supplies like markers. Possibly even books for our mini library that I'm trying to grow for them.

All these ideas depend on how much we can raise, so from me and 150 students...we thank you for the support. It means more than you know.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and continue working in the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. Last summer I was in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my second year with Teach for America.
