Science at the Hills!

The Description

Hi y'all!

With back to school season hitting the stores, the countdown to the start of the school year has begun! 16 days until school starts, but who's counting? With that comes the end of summer teacher planning window, which is where I find myself these days!

Going into my second year at Eastern Hills High School, I am ecstatic to work with our senior students again, teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Forensic Science. Last year I worked with approximately 170 students over 6 periods, and anticipate a similar number for this upcoming year!

I am asking for your help to supply my classroom with essential learning tools, but also for learning experiences that may not include traditional supplies. What sort of supplies are these? A non comprehensive list includes the following:

- Electric pencil sharpener: RIP to the tragic accident that befell my old one during p.6 last May

-Disinfecting and cleaning supplies: I'm sure I don't need to remind you of the current health pandemic & public health trends

-Hygiene products: Don't know if y'all remember, but high school was an awkward, sweaty, stinky period

-Creative project supplies: Pencils, colored pencils, markers, gluesticks and tape (to name a few) disappear more easily than you would imagine!

-Notebooks for students who cannot supply their own or lose theirs

-Organizational supplies: I am hoping to invest in some easy access drawers to increase student access to paper resources

-DIY lab supplies: Sometimes that engaging spur of the moment lab comes to mind the week before your lesson, and a formal supply request just won't meet that deadline. My favorite of these from last year were a forensics chromatography (ink analysis) lab and an anatomy edible model of the vertebral column, both fully supplied by the dollar tree. :)

Why did I choose pledgecents?

While this platform may be less common to some folks (compared to Amazon or Target wish lists) I recognize that asking a person to donate a specific amount to cover the entire cost of an item can be a bit demanding. With PledgeCents, you can donate any amount, nothing too small! Truly, $5 can buy a pack of pencils for when my students inevitably "forget" to return the loaners I give them. And if PledgeCents isn't your vibe, then shoot me a message and I am also receptive to other secure payment options!

Thanks for reading this far & considering helping me & my students!

Back Up Plan

While this goal is just an estimate of how much I will need to start off the year, I will also be receiving a small stipend from my district to help finance my classroom. This will be approximately $250, probably a little smaller after taxes, but also will not be available to me for at least a few weeks. My hope is that with the help of generous donations I can save this 250 for future classroom crises and not need to dip into my personal finances nearly as much as I did last year.
