Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

I am so incredibly grateful for the support I received last summer for my first year classroom as a teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to purchase supplies and materials for my classroom that led to a successful year.

I had an amazing first year as Ms. Daly, the 6th grade English teacher. As many of you may know, I grew up in upstate New York, and attended Peru Elementary and Willsboro High School. At the start of my first year teaching, I constantly found myself comparing my school in Arizona to what I know from my own experiences. Unfortunately, the educational landscape in Arizona is drastically different than New York. According to national reports, Arizona is ranked the 47th worst state school system in our country, with low teacher salaries, lack of school funding, lack of access to technology and resources and high student to teacher ratios.

One of the biggest challenges of working at a low income school is making sure that all of my students have the materials they need to participate in class daily. This is especially important at the beginning of the school year, when we set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community. A goal of mine is to purchase technology for my classroom. It is proven that by bringing technology into the classroom, student learning increases. I hope to purchase laptops or tablets to bring student engagement and learning to the next level.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference in our classroom. As always, I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a list of the materials and prices that your investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.
