The Description

With these funds I will be able to provide adapted materials to my self-contained class.  I teach 9 boys diagnosed with Autism. We are in a Title 1 school and have limited funds.  We are not provided fully adapted curriculum to reach the varied needs of our students.  It is important to teach each child in the way that they learn best in order for them to retain and use the information in a functional way.  I would like to be able to provide our students with a research based reading program that has multiple levels. Our current program is geared toward non-readers and emerging readers.  I have students in multiple grades and they are all on different levels of reading.  The majority of my students can read or are already above the basic skills offered with our current program.  I have been trained in the reading programs offered by Wilson Reading Program and Linda-MoodBell.  The classroom programs offered cost over $1,000.  I would like to start by providing the multi-level reading program to my students.  This will provide a good foundation for me to build on and add the other levels in at a later date. The FUNDATIONS MULTI-LEVEL KIT 2-3 costs $699/kit. The kit includes:

My students deserve to have all of my time devoted to teaching them and not constantly looking on line to provide a differentiated learning experience for each of them.   This program will allow me to do so.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase an edited version of our needs.  I will purchase a single level kit and add the other levels at a later date.

About the Creator

I am a special education teacher in North Carolina. I teach 9 boys diagnosed with Autism. I have a 10 year old son diagnosed with ADD, speech delay and he is selectively mute. I teach in a Title 1 school and have severely limited resources and funds to obtain resources that are greatly needed in my class. Last year I was trained for 8 months to become a service dog handler from Paws 4 People. I was able to bring my service dog, Magnolia, to school with me daily. Magnolia helps my students in many areas. Socially, communication, educationally, sensory, are just a few areas that she has been able to positively impact our school community. I also started a Special Education Parent Teacher Organization in my school. My vision for this group is to provide education, and resources to families and teachers of children with special needs. To be able to give teachers in the general education classroom resources and training in order to provide better service to their children and offering them a better chance of a successful educational experience. I am always looking for research based methods to teach children with special needs. I am always looking for better ways to incorporate parents and families into the education of our students. The funds received will be used for these reasons. To provide proper instructional material for our students, to provide training for parents and teachers, to provide more educational/social activities that include all students.
