I've been with my 7th graders for a year and a half now, and this is my last semester with them. I have a vision that, before our time together is over, each one of them will have the ability to tap into the realm of reading where they get absolutely lost in a book of their own choosing. My hope is that they connect with and understand the characters, empathize and concern themselves with people and situations outside of their daily lives, and discuss and bond over novels outside the curriculum. By donating to this cause, you will empower me with the means to buy a book like this for each one of my students. With the funds I raise I am planning on purchasing roughly 87 new novels. Each novel runs on average between $11-$15. These novels will cover an array of genres including science fiction, realistic fiction, historical fiction, adventure, and fantasy . A few examples of book titles I am looking to purchase are as follows; "Shadowshaper" by Daniel Jose Older, "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card, "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams, and "The Boys In The Boat" by Daniel James Brown. These books will be read in class daily nurturing and promoting a love of literacy.
