The Description
E. D. Walker Middle School ( http://www.dallasisd.org/walker ) is raising funds for a workshop called Girl Power...dedicated to young females.
The principal of E.D. Walker Middle School, Richard Heffernan, wants to encourage more parent involvement from the Spanish-speaking/Latino families of students at the school. The December 2nd date of "Girl Power" will be just one week after several of these parents have completed the nine-week Parents Advocating for Student Excellence ("PASE") program, offered by Dallas non-profit The Concilio...where they will have been instructed on topics such as "Understanding the Education System", "Self-Management of Learning", and "Building Self Esteem".
E.D. Walker wants to keep this momentum of parents' involvement in school by offering "Girl Power", for the school's female students and their moms! This community event will be packed with empowering advice and easy tips to build confidence, self-defense, nutrition awareness, goal achievement, and leadership skills. The 2-hour workshop will be facilitated by Erika Ramelli of Better Humans, (http://www.betterhumans.net/) a global provider of wellness, empowerment, and conscious leadership programs. The $1,500 in funds that we are raising is Ms. Ramelli's fee.
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal of raising $1,500, E.D. Walker PTA will carry the funds over to 2015 and continue to fund raise to be able to offer this program to the female 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and their moms.
