With these funds I will be able to get more books for my classroom! Although I teach Math, I also promote literacy in my classroom. If students are not able to read the math problems they will not be able to show what they truly know. I have several incentive programs in my classroom to promote literacy and offer incentives to students who are reading. For example, this is the second year now that I have had the "10,000 Word Club" in my classroom. It is an exclusive club that can only be joined by reading 10,000 words or MORE in ONE WEEK! This has excited my students to read 1 chapter book a week and they are already jumping reading levels! They are extremely excited about the initiatives that I have in my classroom but of course since I am a math teacher I do not receive funding for books in my room, so I usually either buy them out of pocket or have them donated. My students are very interested in the "Captain Underpants" series, "Goosebumps" series, and "Big Nate" series. With these funds, I will be able to purchase more books from these series so they are able to read their hearts out!
