The Description

With these funds I will...

We can’t give up on increasing students attendance because of the lack of school uniforms. Our school colors are pants: khaki, blue, and black. Shirts: white, burgundy, and black. We need brown and black belts and jackets for our students as well. Attendance drops during the winter months because students don’t have proper clothing.

Student achievement and attendance is very important for our students, but being properly dressed is just as important. Our goal is to provide grade level reading on grade level by the end of this school year. Kingsbury Middle school population is 64% of Hispanic grades 6th-8th. They are struggling with reading and comprehending complex text, but what really matters is that they are dressed and warm when they enter our doors. We are seeking sizes youth 8 to an adult size 16 in pants. We need 100 pairs of pants. We are seeking shirts sizes xsmall to xxlarge. We need 100 shirts (colors are gray, white, navy, black, and burgundy). We need about 200 jackets, pairs of socks, undershirts, and belts of all sizes.

This cause is so important for Kingsbury Middle School teachers, students, and your community for many reasons. First, attendance has historically dropped due to the lack of winter clothing.

Investing in our students is vital for the success of our community. There’s plenty of evidence demonstrating that dollars spent helping a child with proper clothing can avoid tens or even hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars down the road in public assistance, health, and public safety programs.

These funds will assist us to make a commitment that every Kingsbury Middle child will have the support they need to become a strong community, no excuses and no matter what.
