The Description

With these funds our program will pay for one ACT test for each of our high school student athletes with a cost of $39.50 per athlete. ACT cost. Additional funds are needed to purchase business attire for our young ladies. Our program serves young ladies in the 38126 zip code. According to recent census data, this zip code ranks as the poorest in the city and state of Tennessee and among the poorest in the country. As our student athletes prepare for college entrance and job interviews they lack the proper attire to represent themselves in a professional manner.Business Attire The program would like to allocate $100 per athlete to purchase one pant or skit suit, blouse and shoes as outlined in the document Business Attire. Our major exposure event for the 2015-16 season is a trip to Murfressboro, TN to participate in the State Farm Classic hosted by Riverdale High School from December 26-28, 2015. Traditionally this classic has been a solid exposure event for girls basketball players throughout the South. While in the area, we will visit the campuses of Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, Fisk College, Lane College and University of Tennessee at Martin. The team will meet with the coaching staff of these institutions to understand the requirements both academic and athletic needed to obtain an athletic scholarship at their institution. Remaining funds will go towards meals during the classic, estimating $8.00 for breakfast, $10.00 for lunch and $10.00 for dinner per student for a four day trip.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will use the funds to assist in purchase of ACT test for Juniors and Seniors.

Displacement of our kids

September 28, 2015

The City of Memphis announced today they received a 30 million dollar grant to redevelop the Foote Homes housing project. The Foote Homes serves as "home" for over 80% of the population of Booker T. Washington Middle/High School, accounting for about 60% of the Lady Warrior program. As exciting as the redevelopment seems, it means displacement for some of our participants and their families. This uncertainty and the cost of relocation will definitely cause issues to an already cash stricken community. Please invest in the lives of our community.   Grant for Foote Holmes
