Full STEAM Ahead to #ClearTheList Sumner BPS

The Description

With these funds I will purchase materials for students to use in our STEAM makerspace. I’ve found that many of my students have found success in building models using K’nex kits. Understanding the concepts related to Simple Machines are critical to so many of the designs they want to build. These materials will help them build models of simple machines then apply their understandings to their own projects.

Please check my Amazon wish list here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/ZYIMJBB0Q26L?ref_=wl_share

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase as many of the materials off my wish list as possible and supplement with my own funds.

Simple Machines at Work!

October 10, 2019

Thanks to your generosity, our @SumnerBPS 5th graders are building models to increase their understanding of types of work that can be done with simple machines. Using these K’nex kits is ideal since the directions include pictures that help develop a better understanding of how the parts contribute to the finished project. Sometimes times, even I need to look at them more than once!

Thanks again for your generosity and support!

The K'nex sets I'm hoping to purchase serve two different roles.

One set is for younger learners (K1-1st) to begin building. The pieces are larger and easier for students with developing motor skills. They allow young builders more creativity.

The other kits are for 3rd to 5th grade students to learn specifically about levers and pulleys. Building using specific directions help students understand more about how things are assembled. Hopefully, this will help them when creating their own designs.

Thanks to those who've donated already.
