The Description

With these funds I will...purchase an Osmo complete kit. Osmo is an award-winning game system that will change the way my students interact with an iPad by using hands-on play. Through a reflector attached to an iPad, the OSMO applications allow students to use tangible objects to complete tasks.

OSMO includes Tangrams where students arrange wooden puzzle pieces to match on-screen shapes. The Words application challenges students to guess and spell the on-screen image. The Numbers application focuses on students adding and counting the tiles to match numbers on the screen. Through Masterpiece, students can unleash their inner artist! Students pick an image from the camera, web or curated gallery and Masterpiece will transform it into easy-to-follow lines, helping a student create beautiful drawings. OSMO also has a Coding application. Osmo Coding uses hands-on physical blocks to control Awbie, a playful character who loves delicious strawberries. Each block is a coding command that directs Awbie on a wondrous tree-shaking, strawberry-munching adventure. Why is coding important? Coding is the list of instructions given to any computer or digital device in order for it to perform the desired actions. You are never too young to start learning how to code and OSMO provides a fun way to do that.

With these materials in my class, we will be able to go FULL STEAM AHEAD !!!!

I want to make sure that my school is able to get our STEAM academy off to the right start. Remember, it all starts in Kindergarten!!!!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase...an Osmo coding kit. I would like the Osmo complete kit, but I will use the funds to by a simpler version of the Osmo kit which only includes coding.

About the Creator

I teach 32 creative, energetic Kindergarten students.

“Most of what I really need to know about how to live, what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten.

Wisdom did not lie at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the kindergarten classroom.”

Robert Fulghum

My students all come from a diverse background. In my class the students speak English, Spanish, Farsi and Vietnamese. I also have several students with Special Needs. We enjoy reading, math, music and creating art.

I want my students to love learning and school. Since it is many of my students first experience with school, I want to make sure it is a positive one. Learning should be fun and we have a lot of fun in my classroom, but we also learn a lot!!
Our school is becoming a STEAM academy and I am working on getting more technology in my classroom.
