No More Dirty Dishes #ClearTheList

The Description

With these funds I will make clean up more safe and sanitary for our after school cooking club by purchasing a dishwasher.  If extra funding is available we will also purchase a new sink!

Our after school club, HMS Master Chef, provides students with instruction on food handling, kitchen safety, and how to prepare healthy meals.  Our club is funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, but we cannot purchase appliances so I am looking for donations to help make our club more safe and sanitary for all students involved.

Our school does not have a home economics room or kitchen that students are able to access.  Through our grant we have purchases portable induction burners, pots/pans, knives, cutting boards, and basic cooking utensils. However, keeping them clean is a struggle since the sink is in such bad shape.  We have also used the art room sink but it is constantly clogged.

Your donation will go to purchase a new dishwasher (with installation) that will be used for the cooking club.  I am also checking to see if the district maintenance department can install the dishwasher to save on the total price.   Normally I would say that the students need to learn how to properly wash dishes, but since our grant is focused on academics first, we only get about 45 minutes to do the lessons and cook so a dishwasher would just make it easier and safer for our students.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will first go to the local appliance shops and see if they can provide any discounts (such as on installation), seek other sources of funding (maybe PTO could make a match), or do an in school fundraiser selling items such as candy to make up the difference.  If that is not approved, I will use any money raised to purchase other materials for the club such as a counter-top oven, baking pans/trays, blenders, etc. so we can do different types of cooking in the club.
