The Description

Think of your fondest memories from elementary school. It probably wasn’t sitting and listening to your teacher talk from the front of the classroom. I am always trying to figure out ways for students to get involved in the learning and up and moving. That is why this year I want to bring Walkabouts to my students.

With Walkabouts I can leverage the research that shows active students actually learn better. Each Walkabouts lesson lasts between 7-10 minutes and ties in critical math, reading, and literacy concepts into an active and engaging lesson. The best part is that every time my students engage in an activity it will be different from the previous one.

We need your help getting up and active! Your generous investment gets Walkabouts into our classroom.

Here is the breakdown in cost for fundraising for Walkabouts

  • Walkabouts - $199.00
  • Preferred Partner Program - $23.50
  • PledgeCents Platform Fee - $11.75
  • Total - $235.00 (rounded up to the nearest dollar)

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase a less expensive license to an educational website.  One other option I will have would be to use it along with parent donations to fund the program.  It is important to me to be able to provide access to educational material in a variety of ways.  I am always researching new and innovative ways to present lessons.  I have a long list of programs and materials that I am interested in obtaining for my students.

About the Creator

I am a special education teacher in North Carolina. I teach 9 boys diagnosed with Autism. I have a 10 year old son diagnosed with ADD, speech delay and he is selectively mute. I teach in a Title 1 school and have severely limited resources and funds to obtain resources that are greatly needed in my class. Last year I was trained for 8 months to become a service dog handler from Paws 4 People. I was able to bring my service dog, Magnolia, to school with me daily. Magnolia helps my students in many areas. Socially, communication, educationally, sensory, are just a few areas that she has been able to positively impact our school community. I also started a Special Education Parent Teacher Organization in my school. My vision for this group is to provide education, and resources to families and teachers of children with special needs. To be able to give teachers in the general education classroom resources and training in order to provide better service to their children and offering them a better chance of a successful educational experience. I am always looking for research based methods to teach children with special needs. I am always looking for better ways to incorporate parents and families into the education of our students. The funds received will be used for these reasons. To provide proper instructional material for our students, to provide training for parents and teachers, to provide more educational/social activities that include all students.
