Being Bilingual is a Superpower

The Description

This summer, I had the opportunity to teach 12 amazing bilingual students. This fall, that number grows to 31! I am in teaching at a Title I, low-income school in Oak Cliff, a neighborhood in southwest Dallas.

With these funds I will buy necessary supplies for a productive school year with my students. I want to ensure that we have all the right tools for a proper STEM education. I will be serving bilingual students, whose shoes I was in when I was in elementary school. Bilingual education is so important because students should feel empowered by their ability to speak to languages and use it to their advantage in being the next generation of great thinkers. From colored pencils to hand sanitizers, these classroom materials will ensure a productive classroom environment.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase the essential items such as erasers, markers, colored pencils, crayons and glue. These materials will give me the most bang for my buck if I don't reach my goal.

About the Creator

I am a first-year bilingual math and science teacher, which I am extremely excited about! I want to give my students a quality education based in equity, respect, and challenge. I grew up in a low-income school district, but the lack of funding or supplies never prevented my teachers from giving me top-notch education. Now, it is my turn to provide that same quality education for my students.
