The Description

With these funds I will...purchase 30 Google Chromebooks for my African-American History class at MLK High School. I am looking to purchase this technology to further the skills of my students in order for them to compete in a global society. Many of the students that come to our school come from disadvantaged homes and do not have the ability to access technology on a regular basis.

These technology will enable my students to further their education and their competitiveness for the job market in the 21st century. It will allow me to differentiate instruction for all levels of learners. At MLK High School, 30% of our student population is students with special needs, and technology would help them to meet their educational needs in an engaging way. In a society where media plays an important role, infusing it in a classroom setting will help bridge the gap between education and students' everyday lives. The students are able to have fun and be engaged while learning more about the world that they are brought up in and the world outside of our community in Germantown, Pennsylvania.

Everything that our students do in society today utilizes technology. Technology allows people to become more educated through articles, books, games, etc. My students will benefit from this technology need because they will have access to videos, tutorials, publications, etc. that will allow them to become more well-versed.

Through our current technology capabilities, my students are already showing such growth in their development. They are becoming more prepared for the competitive job market in our society today. Our students deserve to have the capabilities to develop their skills and knowledge in order to be prepared for jobs.

As an alum of MLK High School, I understand the importance of being prepared for the opportunities after high school. After I graduated from Penn State, I decided to come back to my alma matter so I could make a major impact in the lives of students. It is because of the education and the opportunities that I received at MLK High School that I have been able to have a fortunate upbringing. Our community, our city, our state, our country needs to understand the situation we have at our school and how important it is that we make a difference for students today, not tomorrow.

I attribute my success and growth to my family and my teachers at MLK High School. My parents were teachers growing up and they did a great job instilling a culture in me that I need to work harder and smarter than the next person. They made sure to let me know that quiting was never an option and will never be an option. These values have passed from them to me to my students today.

Excellence is not an option, it is a must.

I hope my story is coming through to you from my video and from my words. This cause is wildly important to the success and growth of my students and I hope that I can provide the opportunities to my well-deserving students. Thank you for your time and your investment in helping us grow awareness and raise the funds for our classrooms.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase...as many Chromebooks as I can and try to incorporate technology as much as I can with what I receive.
