As many of you know, I recently finished up my first year as a Kindergarten teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools District. This past year was filled with highs and lows but ultimately success as I sent my babies on to first grade. This upcoming year, I will be getting a whole new group of students to love, grow with, and foster a love for learning with!

In the district that I work in, a large number of students have socio-emotional and/or learning needs that impact their ability to focus, retain information, and/or be excited to learn while at school. In order to meet the needs of every one of my students, my goal is to find a way for them to express their emotions while learning at a differentiated level. One way I plan on doing this is ordering classroom tablets for my students. While I understand ordering 35 tablets may be infeasible, I believe having 3-4 classroom tablets could make the necessary impact. Many tablets have apps that support social emotional learning and/or provide students with educational games that can be differentiated and encourage learning. I want to implement a social emotional learning block into my daily classroom schedule to give students the opportunity to acknowledge their feelings and work towards properly handling their emotions. Assigning students different days to use the tablets will not only make them excited to learn but will also teach them a vital part of early childhood education; learning how to control and understand emotions especially in social settings. Additionally, the tablets can be used during center time to provide students with games that will foster learning. The educational game apps can be set to different learning levels so that all children are able to learn and feel successful at their level. 

I cannot wait to begin another school year and work with such bright, inspiring five year olds! I also want to thank you in advance for supporting me and my students. Every dollar I receive will be put towards buying tablets for my classroom so anything you can contribute really will make a difference and positively impact a child this school year. I want to make a great impression and lasting impact on my second group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track!
