The Description
It's the end of the year and our kids should be celebrated for their hard work! We have roughly 60 students who have worked incredibly hard to meet their million word goal to become a KIPP Sol Millionaires. We have a daily goal of reading 35 pages each night. These students have gone above and beyond this daily goal, finishing 1 - 5 books a week! These are students who are reading at every free moment they have including during lunch and transitions. This love of reading has helped our students' reading level grow. Some of these students came in to our school two years below the average reading level and their dedication has led them to almost three years of growth in just a year. They will start next year, reading on grade level and understanding the books they are asked to read. Our advocates have worked hard to set themselves up for success and they deserve a treat. We have transportation to visit Los Angeles's historic "Last Bookstore" and we would love to be able to treat our "millionaires" with a book of their choosing from the store. What a beautiful feeling to crack open a brand new book!
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many books as possible for the students who have read the most words throughout the year.

They had the best time!

What a great day yesterday was! The bus we had ordered broke down, but students were troopers. We ended up taking public transportation to and from the bookstore and they were very kind to both the other bus riders and each other. Students were very excited by all the books and choices and they had a hard time choosing. When they finally did choose, they couldn't put their books down (see below/ignore bus ad). Wish you all could've been there. Again, thank you all for your generosity. The kids (and I) were and are super psyched.
Wow what a time!

We've met our goal! The most thanks to our five investors. Anything above and beyond our goal will go to more books for more kids! One can never have too many books.
