Backpacks for Students

The Description

In order to increase safety, our campus is now asking students to wear clear or mesh backpacks to campus. Many of my students do not have backpacks in the first place, are unable to use their backpack with this rule and/or are unable to purchase a new backpack that meets this expectation. This holiday season I would love to help take this burden off of students and families by providing backpacks for them that they can continue to use the rest of the year. On Amazon they sell a mesh backpack that meets all of the guidelines. Every donation of $11 will give one student a backpack.

Back Up Plan

My hope is to be able to supply as many students as possible with backpacks, focusing on students who are in need.

About the Creator

Hello friends, family and educational advocates! If I haven't gotten the opportunity to meet you, I would love to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Tatum Hammond. I was born and raised in Gilbert, Arizona and recently graduated from the University of Arizona (Bear Down and EV)! Last year I moved to Dallas, Texas to work for Teach for America! I teach 7th grade reading and writing at The Young Men's Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence Middle School. During this time I am also pursuing a masters degree in Education from Southern Methodist University. I am extremely excited to continue this adventure and cannot wait for the school year to begin! Being that Teach for America focuses on providing an excellent education in low-income communities that often times do not receive what should be an equitable opportunity; my classroom is in need of a few things. If you are able to help me in providing for my students, any support would be extremely appreciated and valued (It is tax deductible!) Anything you can do to help me spread the word to continue raising awareness and support would be so wonderful and greatly appreciated! Thank you for all of your support, advice, and love throughout this journey so far!

In case you would like to hear more, below is an additional blurb about Teach for America and the journey I am embarking on:
I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools.
