20 Nonfiction Book Reading Challenge
Verified Non-Profit
$10
$200 goal
The Description
With these funds I will purchase nonfiction books to increase student interest in reading nonfiction text. My students have fell in love with fiction and I want the same love to transfer across genres. My library is in desperate need of high interest nonfiction text. Specifically I want to purchase with these funds the Who HQ books to increase student knowledge of historical places, figures and events.
I am creating a 20 book nonfiction reading challenge in which students will have two months to read nonfiction books, from autobiographies, biographies and informational text about various topics. In addition to that, encouraging students to read widely- sampling books from every genre improves their reading ability by expanding their reading experiences.
It is my belief that in order for students to be well rounded readers they must read books across genres. In addition to that, the book challenge rests on the foundation of a classroom reading community built on research based practices for engaging children with reading. My goal with this challenge is that students will stretch themselves as readers, increase their competence, confidence and overall reading motivation.
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase the nonfiction books with my own money over time so my students can get the library that they deserve to become competent, confident readers.
