The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description
For the past 3 years, I have served for three separate non-profit educational programs: Upward Bound Ohio State University, Upward Bound Georgia State University and City Year Miami. Through these challenging, amazing, and dynamic experiences and the privileged experiences of my own, I have developed a permanent passion for education and working side by side with my students.
This year I am excited to say that I am working as a part of the 2018 Teach for America corps. I will be teaching K-5th ELA-S Special Education, providing instruction in English and Spanish at Green Valley Elementary School. I can't wait to meet my students, their families, and work with my community throughout this next school year.
After my year working at Homestead Middle School in Miami, Florida, I decided to continue working within the field of Education because it needs all the TLC it can get. I sought out to work in Denver, Colorado to continue to serve as a resource, specifically to my Spanish speaking students. Our educational system struggles and in terms of money, resources, and equity. My goal for the year is to support linguistically and culturally diverse students in my school in order to promote academic, social, and emotional growth.
Now that I am stepping into the new territory of Special Education: Individualized Education Plans, pull-outs, and push ins, I plan to strengthen my understanding of our educational system, through a completely different light. Working with the Special Education team will allow to further broaden my knowledge of our educational system and then hopefully use that knowledge to make efficient and beneficial changes for all.
One of the biggest challenges students in high need schools encounter is the lack of access to necessary materials that are used daily. It is very difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have the basic supplies to do so. In order to meet some of my students’ basic learning needs, I would like to provide these essential materials. I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students into a clean, stocked full, and inclusive classroom. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of my first year of teaching.
Your contribution will really make a difference and will greatly impact my students’ learning. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:
