With these funds I will build out our library. We teach our students that literature is one of the most significant ways in which we empathize with our own experience and with that of others. We want our library to continue to evolve with the interest of our kids and with current events.

We also plan on building out our nonfiction section to provide further reading opportunities that relate to our next unit on Inside Out and Back Again. The novel follows a Vietnamese refugee. We need more resources on immigration, the refugee experience, and the Vietnam War.

Our kids love to read and we'd love for them to have every opportunity and resource to do so.  

We plan on adding:

10 books from the "Who Was..." for ~$5 each (Biographies of Malala, Declaration of Independence, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou etc.) 

40 Books by the following authors for ~$7 Pam Munoz Ryan, Jacqueline Woodson, Sharon Creech, Christopher Paul Curtis, Kwame Anderson, Thanha Lai, Walter Dean Myers, Mildred D. Taylor, Gary Soto, Sandra Cisneros, Grace Lin
