Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

As a teacher I am responsible for my very own classroom! I engage daily with my students and their families, and it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom is a welcoming environment for everyone. One of the biggest challenges is making sure that all of my students have the materials they need to participate in class daily. This is especially important at the beginning of the school year, when we set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the supplies needed to welcome my students back to their classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference in our classroom. As always, I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much to those who have donated toward my classroom start-up project. This year will be a huge and wonderful challenge as I focus solely on science for the first time, teaching the entire 5th grade at an elementary school in Bridgeport, CT. As you know, science can be a "supply heavy" subject, but my district and school doesn't even give us a basic supplies budget for essentials like pencils and paper. Of course I will request that families send some supplies with their students, but honestly, so many of my students and families are constantly in crisis and can't manage one more demand on their time and finances. It's my hope that school is a place where students feel safe, welcome, and important. One way I can demonstrate this is by having quality supplies for students to use when they walk into my classroom.

Again, thank you for your support of teachers and students as we start a new school year!

With gratitude,

Day

A new year, a new start, a new school!!!

Hello friends,

First, thank you for taking time out to look at my PledgeCents page and read my update. Our social media feeds are flooded with so many worthwhile requests for funding, and I appreciate your consideration of mine. In the spring of this past schoolyear, I learned that because of budget and enrollment issues, my 4th grade teaching position would be eliminated. I spent the year getting to know the school, my colleagues, my students, and their families only to be told I would have to look for a position elsewhere for this year. In a few weeks I will be starting over - again - at a new elementary school, teaching 5th grade science. Now instead of one class, I will have four! More than 100 students who will need quality, working classroom supplies! Your help of even a couple of bucks can help me stock the classroom so these students start the year knowing they are worth it! Thank you all, and I look forward to updating you about our adventures in science this year!

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
