Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

Help fund an Aggie classroom!

I am excited to share that I am starting my second year as a TFA Baltimore corps member. I will be teaching 6th grade math at a Title I school in Baltimore City, Maryland. Many of my students come from low-income households, and research shows a high correlation between socioeconomic status and math proficiency. Last year, I spent hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket buying basic supplies for my classroom. When that wasn't enough, I was able to get some supplies from a local Teacher Supply Swap, a resource I will continue to use.

During the last week of August, I will be holding summer conversations with the families and caregivers of incoming 6th graders to get to know them and their values and to share the expectations of their new school. I hope to show them a welcoming and well-stocked classroom on the first day of school, September 4, to help set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community.

All the funding I receive will go towards classroom supplies, and I will be documenting my classroom throughout the year. You can support my fundraiser by making a donation, buying a specific item, or spreading the word!

Thanks & gig 'em!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
