The Description

As a special education case manager for 7th grade students, one of my primary goals this year is to create an environment in my office where students feel welcome and are able to make significant academic progress. One step toward reaching this goal is to create a a reading nook filled with high interest/low level books where students may discover the joy of reading in a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

A lot of my students read at grade levels that are lower than 7th grade. This being said, I would like to give them access to high interest/low level books that they will not only be comfortable reading, but enjoy reading. Examples of a high interest/low level books include: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," by Jeff Kinney, "Pigboy," by Vicki Grant and "Crash," by Jerry Spinelli.

Many books that appeal to the interest of 7th graders are often written at a reading level that leaves my students frustrated. Conversely, books written at their reading level are often intended for much younger children. A library composed of books intended exactly for their interests and reading level will build their confidence and abilities in reading.

Since I want to make the greatest impact for my students, I will use your donation to buy used books that are in good condition. Used books typically cost between $3.50-$4 with about $.50 for shipping.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many book as possible, while buying the shelving and other furniture myself.
