Ms. Hammond's Back to School Fundraiser

The Description

After completing my first year of teaching, I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to go back into the classroom again this August. After this past year, I have gotten to know some of the unique needs our students and families have. One of the biggest hurdles that we face in high need schools is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full of materials. Along with this, being that it is my second year, I really want to focus on the families' needs as well -such as uniforms, backpacks, etc. This will allow me to help provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them and help parents to properly prepare their scholars for this year. Thank you so much in advance for supporting us through exciting journey.

PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my students and their families by letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far.

I have also created an Amazon Classroom Needs Wishlist, if you would prefer to purchase a specific item for our classroom: http://a.co/da9CxvU

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

About the Creator

Hello friends, family and educational advocates! If I haven't gotten the opportunity to meet you, I would love to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Tatum Hammond. I was born and raised in Gilbert, Arizona and recently graduated from the University of Arizona (Bear Down and EV)! Last year I moved to Dallas, Texas to work for Teach for America! I teach 7th grade reading and writing at The Young Men's Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence Middle School. During this time I am also pursuing a masters degree in Education from Southern Methodist University. I am extremely excited to continue this adventure and cannot wait for the school year to begin! Being that Teach for America focuses on providing an excellent education in low-income communities that often times do not receive what should be an equitable opportunity; my classroom is in need of a few things. If you are able to help me in providing for my students, any support would be extremely appreciated and valued (It is tax deductible!) Anything you can do to help me spread the word to continue raising awareness and support would be so wonderful and greatly appreciated! Thank you for all of your support, advice, and love throughout this journey so far!

In case you would like to hear more, below is an additional blurb about Teach for America and the journey I am embarking on:
I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools.
