There's Beauty in the Struggle

The Description
"If there is no struggle, there is no progress."
- Fredrick A. Douglass
This'll now be my second year teaching at Douglass High School in New Orleans. Between the two years, I have made a transition from teaching 9th grade ELA to 12th grade AP Lit. I'm sure that a lot of my students are excited for the year, but especially eager to grab their diplomas and graduate in the Spring.
Although the last year of high school can be a breeze, it can also get tough for young people as they are preparing for the next steps of their life's journey. Every teacher's hope is for students to comprehend, appreciate, and holistically engage with the content. In reality, that sometimes gets tricky to maintain.
Beside managing a rigorous curriculum for my students, I wish to cultivate a space in which they can relate, create, and elevate amongst one another. Times are bound to get hard during the year; however, my students will know that there's beauty in the struggle.
J Cole said, "It's beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success". With the help of your donations, you can help these Seniors see that there's beauty in the struggle, but within a few months of enrichment, they will be happy and living in their success.
Back Up Plan
If I do not reach my goal, I have to intensely budget on a small class budget and also adjust my vision. I learned from my first year that students intensely feed off the design and energy of the classroom. With more culturally relevant content on the walls, students will stay invested in the academics.
