The Description

The purpose for the funding is to give my students the resources they need to begin to be on the same playing field as privileged students. In order for my students and me to combat the outside factors of poverty and discrimination we need resources inside the classroom to help us achieve. My students need to be prepared for the world they will live in once outside of school, this world will without a doubt include large technological advances. This means that for my students to stay competitive and on an equal playing field they need constant exposure to technology. I plan to have my students rotate daily on computers using programs aligned to their math and reading growth. However, because of lack of computers I need to supplement the classroom with 2 or more tablets ($119 each) so that each student in a group truly gets in touch with technology and different forms of technology. See the tablet I want to buy below.

About the Creator

This year I will be serving as a 1st grade teacher at Laura C. Saunders Elementary school. LCS is located in Florida City, the southern most point of the Florida turnpike. My students and their families reside in one of the poorest communities in Miami-Dade, Florida City is considered a job desert. Poverty has been shown to be the number 1 indicator of student achievement. In order to combat poverty students need access to resources and tools in the classroom that otherwise would be unavailable.
