#ClearTheList -- Books are Friends for All

The Description

With these funds I will add new, relevant books to my class library. By adding titles written in the last five years, I can add books that appeal to today's students. Also, I want to add more graphic novels to my shelves to reach the most reluctant reader. Last year, I brought in several new titles. They were easily the most read titles in the room. They passed from one student to another. Several titles went home with students and never returned.

My students need books that discuss foster care, adoption, racial issues, immigration and all the other topics in the news today, because my students are living in these situations. Fresh, new titles engage the students.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase titles as I can. I go to second-hand book stores, and I watch for online coupons. Unfortunately, waiting for a few extra dollars in the home budget will not be as fast as reaching out through PledgeCents or other campaigns.

About the Creator

I am an 8th grade teacher in a Title 1 school, but I am also a volunteer trap shooting coach for another district. And while the second district is not Title 1, at least 50% of our team members qualify for free/reduced meals. So whether it is in the classroom or out on the field, I am working to expose students to new ideas and experiences.
