Sensory and STEM #ClearTheList

The Description
With these funds I will be able to offer my students an engaging alternative to "morning work." Instead of being expected to immediately get down to academic work, students will be encouraged to engage with their peers to build community, spark their imagination, and work collaboratively to create and inspire!
The students in my class come from diverse backgrounds with a variety of needs. Giving them the opportunity to decompress from whatever morning they may have, any conflicts that arise from bus rides will allow them to adjust their mindsets and get ready for the school day. There is so much pressure for students to achieve academically on assessments, we sometimes forget that our students are still KIDS. They NEED time to play. Play can be extremely beneficial and an excellent opportunity to learn important skills such as problem solving, resolving conflicts, and collaboration. Additionally, STEM and sensory items can engage their creative and artistic sides.

Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal I will continue to purchase these items, one at a time, for my classroom. I will also ask parents and the community to gift items if they can. I have used my own personal social media outlets to ask my friends for support and many of them have been gracious enough to donate to my classroom.
Last year, I worked to establish a care closet to provide hygiene items for my students and their families. Over the summer, I used social media and coupon sites in order to collect the items I needed to fulfill this need. I had a fully stocked closet before school started and the closet was used by many of our students. I have no problem asking and working for the things I need to help my students have a positive experience at school.
