A Flexible Seating and Work Model Math and Science Classroom

The Description

With these funds I will enhance my flexible seating and work model classroom. Currently students have whiteboard tables, stools and bar tables, a carpet area and 4 Big Joes to choose from. I'm looking to:

  • Revive my Big Joes by re-stuffing them. They're filled with that styrofoam stuff that flattens quickly, I'm hoping to stuff with polyfiber and get a couple of years more out of them.  I will purchase 4 5 lb. bags of stuffing
  • Stock up on student whiteboard markers. We currently have 2 students sharing one marker and our class set is drying out. I'm hoping to stock markers to last through the end of the year (144 pieces), roughly one marker per student for our next semester.
  • A class set of clipboards (30), currently students share 10 on a first come, first serve basis.
  • 4 Squishies for students who need movement to focus.
  • 5 noise cancelling headsets for students easily distracted.

This project will deeply impact my students' ability to work in a setting that best allows them to process information. Every learner is unique and a key component of middle school is learning what works best for each of them. Flexible seating and work models allow students to develop habits that allow them to succeed as they grow up.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many of the items on the list as possible, starting with the essentials like the whiteboard markers and clipboards and working my way to the items that help a specific set of learners.
