Team First Grade

The Description

Going into my second year teaching first grade, there are a few key themes I want to hit in my classroom. In addition to traditional classroom supplies, these funds will go toward:

  1. Items to promote social-emotional learning: My proudest accomplishment in my classroom last year had nothing to do with academics. I was most proud of helping support my kids in vocalizing their feelings, making positive choices in response to emotions, and advocating for themselves when they needed a break. Additional supplies will help continue to create a trauma-informed classroom.
  2. Items to develop positive character traits: Materials such as legos and magnetic tiles will help students foster creativity during choice time, developing skills in leadership and sharing. Other materials for tracking student progress and goals will help promote student autonomy over their own strengths and education.
  3. Items to increase academic success: This year, one of my main focuses is in purposeful non-direct instruction. When students are participating in choice time, indoor recess, or guided reading rotations, the activities they can choose from should still foster academic growth. An increased focus on phonics-related activities will ensure that my students this year learn to read so that by the time they reach the upper grade levels, they can read to learn.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal, I will purchase the remaining/necessary materials with my own funds.
