Growing an Environmental Science Classroom
$295
$238 goal
The Description
This year I will be teaching a new subject that has never before been offered at my school: Environmental systems! This is both daunting and exciting because while it is a brand new class, it is a subject that I am truly passionate about. I hope to grow globally-minded citizens who possess the skills to think critically about environmental issues. In addition to that goal, I also hope to take steps to building a more sustainable classroom by reducing paper waste. Your contributions will help me to accomplish these goals.
Supplies I plan to purchase:
- world map
- classroom set of whiteboards (reduce paper waste!)
- recycling bin
- water testing kit
- graduated cylinders
- pH test strips
- pencils
- markers
- packs of (non-invasive, native to the area) seeds for monthly scholar "growth award"
- classroom plants
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal I will still be able to purchase necessary supplies for my classroom! I will prioritize items that my class NEEDS to function (water testing kit, markers) and the world map because I believe that it is important for scholars to be more aware of our place in the world.

Thank you for your investments!
August 19, 2018
Thank you so much to all who donated to help me build my Environmental Science classroom! We are currently in week 3 and my scholars are learning about environmental value systems and how they impact policy-making decisions. Next quarter, we will begin practical work and my scholars will be designing their own environmental science investigations. I am so excited to be back teaching at UHP and this school year is looking to be a lot of fun!
Mahalo from the bottom of my heart for your kōkua.
Love,
Ms. Matlin
