Washington, D.C. Trip - CCMS

The Description

History lessons will come alive as the Curtis Corner Middle School (CCMS) 8th-graders travel to Washington, D.C. and learn first hand about the events that have shaped our nation.

The CCMS 8th-graders and their families are raising funds for their class trip to our nation's capital.  The group will travel by bus and participate in a three-day/two-night educational experience that will allow students to apply classroom knowledge, make connections, and enhance their understanding of our nation's history and government.  The trip includes the Smithsonian Museums of Natural History, American History, and Air and Space.  We will visit all the major memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, Supreme Court, and Mount Vernon. In addition, we will have the privilege to meet with our Rhode Island senators and representatives before a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building.

This once in a lifetime trip is made available to all our 8th-grade students regardless of their ability to pay.  All funds raised will go directly to provide financial assistance to students in need.  The cost of the trip is $484 per student.  This year our scholarships consist of six (6) full and nine (9) half scholarships.  For many, it will be one of the few times in their lives they get to travel.

It's an educational experience the kids of CCMS will never forget and we hope you can help.   Please consider investing in this worthwhile cause.

Back Up Plan

In the event we do not reach our goal, all funds raised will be evenly dispersed to our students in need of financial aid.

About the Creator

I'm a 7th & 8th-grade social studies teacher at Curtis Corner Middle School (CCMS) in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. This year I am leading our 8th-grade Washington, D.C trip. It is an amazing experience for our students and it leaves them with life-long memories. In addition to coordinating and planning the trip details, I lead a fundraising committee comprised of parents, teachers, and community members. We work together to assure we raise enough money to help our students in need of financial assistance.
