Product Description
Our founder, Dr. Julian Reed, is passionate about getting kids moving to learn. Experts agree that children should get at least 60 minutes of exercise each day, but most students don’t reach that level of physical activity. Walkabouts were designed based on years of research and make it easy to integrate physical activity into your existing math, language arts, and reading curricula for Pre-K through 2nd grade students. The multisensory lessons meet the needs of all learners by getting students up and moving while learning.
In just a few clicks, teachers can find a standards-aligned lesson that lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. While the students are guided through the lesson by Walkabouts’ avatars, Jax and Gia, teachers can use the assessment tool to track student understanding of the topic. Teachers can even download companion Walksheets (ActivEd’s version of worksheets) to reinforce each lesson.
Join educators across the US who have gotten their students moving—and learning—with Walkabouts.
How It Works
Getting started using Walkabouts is easy! ActivEd sets up all teacher accounts and provides individual login credentials for each teacher. After logging into their web-based accounts, teachers can choose Pre-K through 2nd grade math, language arts, and reading Walkabouts to play for their students; set up student accounts; or print Walkabouts (ActivEd’s version of worksheets) right from their dashboards. ActivEd also provides training and other tools to help teachers get started including:
- How-to videos for teachers
- How-to videos for parents and students so students can use Walkabouts at home
- A Get the Word Out Kit to let other teachers, parents, and the community know about Walkabouts
