ClassTracks is an online vocabulary tool built by teachers for teachers. We set out to make a vocabulary app that is engaging for students, flexible for teachers, and – most importantly – effective. And, we’ve succeeded. After rigorous testing with students and teachers across the US we have seen that students typically learn vocabulary faster and retain it longer after switching to ClassTracks. Students say they love learning and practicing vocabulary on ClassTracks and seeing their grades shoot up as a result. Teachers say ClassTracks is “minimal work on the teacher's end, beautifully captured data on the kids, AND is more rigorous...while also providing scaffolding/individualized differentiation when needed.”

How It Works

Teachers: create a vocabulary list. You are free to use our library of images and audio to go with the words, choose your own images from your computer or the internet, or opt out of images and audio altogether. You know your students, so we give you the option to choose what will work best for them.

Students: begin working on a vocabulary list. All the words on the list show up as media-rich flashcards. ClassTracks helps the students “chunk” learning by selecting 8-10 random cards to start with, leaving the rest in the queue. The student then makes their way through 4 scaffolded “levels” for each card that ask students to both identify and product the target word. As the student progresses, new cards are introduced from the queue.

Data: After completing a study session, students can see a simple data-dashboard that shows which words they have learned, how long it took, which were the most difficult, and how many are left. Teachers can access the same dashboard for each individual student, plus an aggregate dashboard that shows class averages. We hope that teachers and students will use this data in their conversations about progress and challenges.

Awards & Distinctions

ClassTracks was selected out of over 200 applicants to participate in the 4.0 Schools ‘Launch’ program, an incubator for innovative ideas in education. We were also selected for the Startup Showcase at SXSWedu, the Lean Lab Fellowship in Kansas City, and Accelerate Baltimore. We have presented on panels or delivered sessions at the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Foreign Language Association of Virginia, Light City Baltimore, and the TFA 25th Anniversary Summit.

Pricing Model

ClassTracks costs $5 per student per year. This price includes technical assistance and access to our bank of online resources to facilitate implementation. If multiple teachers at a school want to use ClassTracks, and additional $200 fee will be assessed for implementation. The $200 fee includes a 60-minute ‘train the trainer’ PD session (remote).
