Product Description
90% of high school dropouts are due to struggles with literacy. Literacy instruction is difficult because the needs of students differ greatly, and current solutions just aren’t intuitive enough. Teachers often feel conferring takes tremendous amounts of preparation and organization — and when would they ever have time to extract insights from conferring data?
Literator is removing all these barriers to conferring: we’re making it effortless to confer and derive insights, so all students can finally benefit from this research-proven method.Literator provides teachers with a tool to help them support students at any level of reading, perfect for intervention and challenging advanced students. We are empowering teachers to be strategic and focused.
Over 1,000 teachers in 8 countries are user Literator to aid their instruction. This means we’re impacting over 20,000 students worldwide. We’re just getting started but we won’t be finished until we’ve closed the literacy gap - a gap disproportionately impacts students of color and students in poverty. It doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve identified and addressed some of those root causes in how we’ve built Literator.
How It Works
As a teacher, I would open up the Literator app and sit with a student while she reads. The app alerts me to the things that I should be looking for as I watch my student. Before, I might have been juggling text books, binders, and scribbling down notes---now I can be more present. As I watch, I simply swipe to capture data and Literator automatically gives me insights, highlights trends and the shows the highest priority skills I need to teach based on those inputs. I can later refer to these highest priority skills when planning a lesson for the next day. I can also share these insights with parents and colleagues through the app.
As a principal, I would open up the Literator dashboard and see how all my students are doing as a whole. The dashboard would alert me if a specific grade or demographic is lagging behind the average in terms of their progress. I can then drill down to these groups of students and see their highest priority skills. I can then refer to these skills when providing training and support for my teachers. If a specific student is not performing well, I can go into her individual profile and see if her performance was affected by attendance or whether she’s struggling because of a specific skill.
