About

KIPP Northeast College Preparatory opened in June of 2013 with approximately 120 college-bound freshmen. The school will expand by one grade level each year until it serves approximately 480 students in the 2016-17 school year. At KIPP Northeast, college readiness is at the center of everything we do; as a school, we will work to ensure that each student receives individualized instruction to help address their different academic needs.

At KIPP Northeast, we will live five values: Gratitude, Responsibility, Excellence, Ambition, and Tenacity; we will be GREAT. These values will provide the framework for our school’s culture, and will be integrally tied to our behavior management system. Students will live them in a variety of ways. They will have opportunities to serve as leaders of student government, establish clubs, participate in athletics, and organize community service projects. During their freshmen composition class, students will begin to explore what each value looks like in action and how historical figures have lived and defined the values.

Rachel Kaufman

Learning Specialist

Hello! I am a Learning Specialist at KIPP Northeast College Preparatory (high school). This means I support the special education students at our school. I used to teach 5th grade Social Studies. This is my first year in the position, and I look forward to helping my students think about their lives after high school. I really hope to give our students many options for their paths after high school.

Brandee Davis

Geometry Teacher

At KIPP we believe that the work that goes in our classrooms day in and day out are setting our students on the path to and through college. As a first generation college graduate, when I ask myself what impacted my trajectory through college it was the opportunity to learn about my chosen career field BEFORE college. Summer of learning opportunities are INVALUABLE for students and often times INACCESSIBLE for students from low income/under-served communities. It is my GOAL that 100% of the 10th graders at KIPP Northeast College Prep attend a summer of learning opportunity (SOL). To make that goal a reality I would like to raise money (approx. $300 per student) to use toward a SOL. That opportunity could be a week long summer camp or the money could be used toward a summer institute at a college or university.

Raymiah Jackson

Orchestra Director/Music teacher

Mr. Raymiah Jackson was born and raised in Marshall, TX. He received his Bachelor of Music and his Master of Fine Arts in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He spent seven years in public schools in the surrounding Houston area (both being Title I schools) before coming on to teach with KIPP Houston Public Schools in 2012. His primary instrument is violin/viola under the training of Dr. Isidor Saslav, but spends his weekends on bass for community events and local performances. As a young musician, Jackson received an opportunity to perform with his former orchestra teacher Ken Lattimore, who is now a member of country/western group Sons of the Pioneers. In his musical career, Mr. Jackson has performed with the Marshall Symphony, Orchestra of the Pines, the SFA Chamber Orchestra and the Mu Xi Chapter Men’s Chorus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. His ten years as a strings teacher has included both private lessons and public school settings. Many of his students have gone on to be involved in regional orchestras, Houston Youth Symphony, and university orchestras. From 2007 through 2010 orchestras under his care have earned consistent First Division ratings at UIL competetitions, including “Sweepstakes” honors in 2008. Other superior and first division honors include those from the Humble Invitational, Pride of Texas and Soundwaves music festivals. At KIPP Houston Public Schools, his students have been featured performers at the Muscular Dystrophy Association Annual Muscle Walk, Downtown Houston’s House of Blues, the 2014 KIPP Gala, and with Mark Wood in a combined Electrify Your Strings concert including KIPP Sharp Orchestra, KIPP Sharpstown Orchestra and Choir, and YES Prep Orchestra. As a strong believer of the KIPP mission and vision, Mr. Jackson works hard to instill the truths spoken to him in the process of getting to and through college, constantly reminded by the words of Marianne Williamson that “our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.” KIPP Houston Public Schools a public charter school organization that focuses on getting students from underserved communities to and through college. The arts are slowly gaining momentum in the school system, but it is difficult to find funds for adequate equipment and supplies to give students the type of instruction they deserve. The purpose of using PledgeCents will be for assistance in finding an appropriate grant option and funding/partnership that would fit KIPP Northeast College Prep and possibly other schools within our district.

Aimee Anderson

Counselor

I am a high school counselor of a new high school in the KIPP Houston Public School network. I have always wanted to work with teens - especially at-risk youth - and believe that assisting the whole child (academically, mentally, emotionally) will ensure they succeed in high school and beyond. Giving at-risk or underprivileged teens this opportunity to succeed helps to meet this personal goal.

Gabrielle Kaplan

teacher

I am a middle school math teacher who cares deeply about the success of students in urban districts and working toward ending education inequity.

Shelby Powers

Teacher

I am a 9th grade Algebra teacher at KIPP Northeast College Prep. I have been teaching for over ten years and love seeing how much my students have accomplished in that time.

Stephen Barber

English II / Ap Literature

My name is Stephen barber and I'm a 10th grade English teacher at KIPP Northeast College Prep. At the end of last year, our English Department started a school book drive with the intention of starting our very own school library. With nearly 1,500 donated books, we are now clearing away an old storage room, building bookshelves, and training students to be lunch and after-school librarians. Our goal is to create a rich and varied selection of books from which our students can choose. For the sake of effectively and efficiently categorizing books, creating a check-in and check-out system, and organizing a book database, technology is a must. Although we're small, we're a thrifty bunch. We want to grow our library with the classics and develop a tech savvy student population that can navigate the technical world.
