Elizabeth Micci
Teacher/Academy Coordinator
Mission: Our mission is to cultivate conscious, self-aware individuals who can communicate at the collegiate level - creating a generation of Chávez High School citizens that improve the world. Chavez Prep is a comprehensive and competitive high school for high-achieving students. It is the advanced academic program at César E. Chávez High School in the Houston Independent School District. Students in the Prep program take all advanced core classes starting their freshmen year. Prep students are given options to choose a variety of Advanced Placement courses throughout their high school years to challenge themselves to become AP Scholars with distinguished diplomas, or at least recognized students that submit competitive applications for admission to top-tiered colleges and universities. Chavez Prep also aims to develop leaders in all fields. We encourage all Chavez Prep students to participate in any extracurricular activity offered at Chávez High School, from performance to visual arts, athletics to agriculture... any of the many programs offered at Chávez are open to Prep students. WE ARE CHÁVEZ!

Lakisha Womack
Step Team Coach
We are the Wolf Pack, created to being a positive group that loves to express ourselves through step. We are a family. With being a family we accept each other’s differences and learn each other’s culture. I, Ms. Womack, came to Chavez in February and saw a need to start a step team for kids that either need a way to redirect anger or frustration, need motivation to work hard in school, or just can't afford to be in any of the other expensive school teams. In just a month, I have seen the positive affect this team has on each and every member. We are requesting help in continuing this change by donations. These donations will be used strictly for students that can't afford uniforms, for motivational field trips to local step team affiliates, and to the production of our first step team competition show in February; in which the shows proceeds will be used to create scholarships for some of our senior steppers. Our team has now grown to over 30 students! :-)

Kevin Pullum
Head Boys Basketball Coach/PE Teacher 9th-12th Grade
Kevin Pullum enters his 11th season as the head coach at Cesar E.Chavez High School. Chavez’s overall basketball record (2000-2004) prior to hiring Kevin was a dismal 13 wins and 88 loses. In his first five years at Chavez, Kevin has helped lead the lobos to their first ever 5thstraight consecutive winning season. In 2005 – 2006 the team finished above .500 with an impressive record of 18 wins and 14 defeats (8 – 4 in district). In the 2006 – 2007 seasons Kevin led the team to its first ever playoff birth in the schools history with an impressive district record of 11 wins and 4 loses finishing in fourth place behind Bellaire, Madison, and Westside. During their playoff game against Aldine; Chavez gave the Mustangs’ a serious scare after losing by the score of 58 – 54. Chavez came so close to making the biggest upset in high school history. Aldine was ranked #2 in the region and 4thin the state with a 29 – 1 record. In 2007-2008 & 08-09 he was awarded theCoach of the Year by the Houston Coaches Association (HCA). Under his leadership the team won 28 games and lost only 6 while finishing 2ndin district 20 5A (14 – 2 in district). In his 2ndstraight playoff appearance the team advanced to the regional semi-finals by defeating Aldine, Strake Jesuit, and Lamar. In 2008-2009 the Lobos made a major mild stone by becoming District Champs with an impressive district record of 10-2. The team advanced to theUIL StateRegional Finals where they lost 59-58 to Strake Jesuit who was ranked #1 in the state and #6 in the nation after having defeated Humble,Seven Lakes, Kingwood, and Hightower. Seven Lakes, Kingwood, and Hightower were all district champions. This was the highest playoff accomplishment in the schools history. Kevin was awarded the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Don Coleman 5-A Coach of the Year. In 2009-2010 after losing nine seniors the Lobos made it to playoffs again for their fourth straight season. Kevin is recognized by his colleagues to be one of the top strategic coaches in high school. His commitment to excellence is what he credits along with his biblical approach to coaching that caused him to become a head varsity coach directly from middle school. Kevin is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsor. Their meetings are held every Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m. until 7:50 a.m. Kevin is very passionate about reaching out to the youth. Because he can remember the powerful impact his South Union community coach, the late “Be-Be” had on his life. It was through his wonderful encounter with such a caring and compassionate coach that Kevin learned how to lead like that of a shepherd (who is willing to serve his fellowman). He believes that it is vital that he live his life in such a way that he can be a positive role model and example for his team members to follow. He firmly feels that children would rather see a sermon than here one.
Jennifer Pham
Dance & ESL Geometry Teacher
Jennifer Pham received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from Texas State University in San Marcos. After college is when she found her first teaching job at Chavez High School. She has been teaching for two years at Chavez High school where she teaches ESL Geometry and dance. Jennifer has dance most of her life, and her passion towards dance is very much rooted to her high school Dance/Drill Team experience. When she was finally offered her dream job, the director of the Sapphire Stars, she was thrilled. Jennifer did not know she could love directing a dance/drill team more than she could love dancing. However, she will say her love for both are very much equal.

10th grade English
I'm beginning my first year of teaching as a 10th grade English teacher in Houston, TX as a corps member with Teach for America. I will be teaching in a Title I school in which over 80% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Last year, less than 3% of students in my school met the advanced standard on their state reading test. I know my students are brilliant, and we need the resources to show it. They deserve every bit of support that I enjoyed as a student and more, and I'm hoping you can help provide some of the materials they need at such as pivotal time in their lives. 10th grade was when I first decided I really could be whatever I wanted, but when you don't have pencils, paper, books, or other learning materials, it's hard to concentrate on building yourself. Please consider joining this fight.
