Rewarding Positive Behavior

The Description

With these funds I will be able to reward students for their success inside the classroom.  Students learn best when they know they matter.  I like to reward my students for positive behavior and positive grades.  I also like to reward students for working hard to increase their scores and showing growth.  I'd like to have the ability to purchase some items for students to receive for their hard work, which also serve as an incentive to work hard.  Last year I was able to reward 6 students with the most growth by taking them to a Pelicans game!  It only costs $11 to take one student to a game and buy them dinner, but the memory stays with them for a lifetime.  I'd like to be able to do this type of thing again this year, as well as use the money for things students can use inside the classroom like pencils and notebooks.  My students deserve to know people care about them and this is just a small way to show it!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase classroom pencils, erasers and notebooks to use for incentives.

About the Creator

My name is Brandi Freeman and I am a 5th grade Math teacher in the projects of New Orleans. I joined Teach For America to work on their vision that "One day, ALL children will have an opportunity to attain an excellent education." I am a first generation college student who has not only received an Associates Degree and a Bachelors Degree, but became the first of my family to receive my Masters. I am dedicated in educating our future students and dedicated to giving all students a chance at a opportunistic future. I realized in my first year teaching that God chooses special individuals to do this work and I know he designed me perfectly for this job. I come from a broken home where education wasn't seen as an important goal. Many of my students come from families that feel the same way. I am dedicated to helping these students find their potential, whatever it may be, and helping them tap into the education that will get them where they want to go.
