The Description
Fostering a love for reading can be quite challenging to most reluctant readers. There just isnt enough reading resources for struggling readers on a High School interest level
In addition to my classroom library, I have used as a Trial run this year computer based program called NewsEla Pro . This innovative comprehension on line Reading program with nonfiction is usually relevant to what is happening in the current daily news. The articles are with visuals on three Lexile levels and some article are available in other languages The majority of these articles are challenging and at best capture all my students focus. The article and questions are selected by me according to the standard that we are currently teaching. In order to get the full NewsElaPro there has to be a purchased license for each student. I see 125 students each year, and currently, and I track each student on their progress in order to re-skill or move to the next level . I need to purchase a classroom license for each student that will cost $1,250.00

The school population represents over 26 countries communicating in 36 different languages with over 20% of the student population receiving English Language Learner (ELL) services. The current ethnic ratio is 15% white, 42% African American, 38% Hispanic and 5% classified as other.73% of students participate in the free and reduced lunch program. The majority of my ELL students are not privy to computers at home. I am fortunate I have 25 computers in my classroom and my classroom is always opened for extra curriculum and access to the internet.
My students need us to help them win. They can only win if educators alter the ways in which we guide and teach them. Only then can we expect to become a nation of readers. It begins first with choices, from a variety of resources; a classroom library and specific licenses needing to purchase. I'm hoping you, will come along side with me and support me as a teacher, so I am able to equip my students with learning power knowledge, and impact their lives for a better future.
Back Up Plan
