The Description

The money that would be given to the Jay Debate team would help to ensure that students who come from struggling families can still participate in Debate and Forensics. Each year, the parents of Speech and Debate students have to pay $25 per hotel room, plus purchase nice clothing (suits and ties, etc.), and have money for food while attending weekend-long tournaments. The money that would be provided would allow me to help cover the costs of those students who need financial assistance.

Our Debate team recently clinched the top school in our district in terms of competitive success and so our team is quickly expanding and attracting students of various backgrounds.

Back Up Plan

Any leftover money would go to support students' trips to the National competitions which take place in June. These trips normally cost around $10,000 and that all has to be raised by the students and their parents.

About the Creator

I currently serve as the Speech and Debate teacher at Jefferson City High School. This is my third year with the District, but my sixth total year teaching. I am honored to get the opportunity to work with such smart students in our school. It is always great to see students grow in their self-confidence and in their abilities to confidently communicate an idea that matters to them.
