The Description

With these funds I will help supply my classroom with the necessary materials every student needs to succeed. I am a first year Teach For America teacher, Boston Public Schools alumni, and mentor. My dream has always been to provide students, especially students of color the proper materials in a classroom. Growing up was very difficult in a low-income household so these funds will alleviate the cost of school supplies for multiple parents. Receiving funding for this school year will be very important to me because not only will it alleviate cost for parents, but for me as an educator and being a recent college graduate starting my career.

To get the year starting on a great foot, every penny will be spent on the startup supplies needed to welcome my students. These funds will allow me to purchase items that the school system might not necessarily supply for the entire school year. Items that will also be purchased are education materials to provide accommodations for different learning styles.

It is important for me to ensure that these students are loved and cared for in the classroom. PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on these students. They need to know that they come from a community that shines light on their academics. Here is a list of some materials I am planning on purchasing with your generous investment.

  • Loose leaf 3-ring binder paper (500 count x 3) - $33
  • Boxes of pencils (150 count x 3) - $37
  • Boxes of ball point pens(144 count x2) - $17
  • Grading pens (12 count x 1) -$11

  • Dry Erase markers (8 count x 2) - $16

  • 3x5 index cards (10 pack) - $12

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize what my students need that are the most essential to start the school year. These items will consist of notebooks, pens, pencils and more to assure that students can participate in the lesson on a daily bases.

About the Creator

I am a born and raised Boston resident. Growing up in the Boston Public School system was a journey that built me to be the educator I am today. Coming from a low-income bilingual household and attending a school that was low on textbooks impacts my opinion on how important materials are to be successful. I decided that I needed to challenge the youth to not only be successful in my classroom but in society. I was able to return to my community through Teach For America and touch the hearts of students growing up in the same neighborhood.
