The Description

Don't you wish you learned about the Industrial Revolution through a remix of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice"? Or about the Three Branches of Government to the tune of "Hit 'Em Up" by Tupac?

My students have the chance to do so with YOUR help!!!!

With your funds, I will be able to buy a 1-year subscription to Flocabulary (https://www.flocabulary.com/), a super cool website that creates educational hip-hop videos, interactive activities and online assessments for students in ALL grades for ALL subjects. In my Social Studies class, the Mavericks at YES Prep Southwest will be able to learn about topics ranging from Hunter-Gatherers (and early human civilizations) to Immigration to Women's Rights through hip-hop.

Check out some of their AWESOME videos out for yourself:

Industrial Rev: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eutUTVpdWDc

Branches of Gov.: https://www.flocabulary.com/3-branches-of-government/

These videos, along with rigorous textual content, will reinforce their understanding of major world events and eras, and social science topics like economics, government, and culture -- but in a more engaging and FUN way. Something that is catchy is more likely to be "sticky" in a student's mind, meaning they will remember it better. Take the Industrial Revolution, which do you think an 11-year-old (or you) will find more interesting AND remember better: A 2-page summary of the causes and effects of the IR, OR "More steam, more coal, more slums, more smoke. Less time, less space, life is less slow"?

Please donate as much or as little as you can!! Your investment will certainly liven up my class and make the children really pumped about learning. The Maverick Nation will greatly appreciate it!!!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase class-sets of school supplies (highlighters, pens, pencils, glue, scissors, rulers, erasers, construction paper, etc.) that will benefit not only this year's group of students but the other cohorts to come (while supplies last :))
